Stevenson Jones has been an optician’s practice since the 1930s, though it has had several owners and names during that time. John Stevenson bought the practice in 2008 and expanded into the next-door building in 2019, doubling the size and modernising with a complete refit.
John has over 30 years of eyecare experience, having worked for another large independent optician for several years before deciding he wanted to own and run his own practice. His ambition to develop a unique practice that is both highly clinical and has a friendly, customer-centric approach, has certainly come to fruition.
John Stevenson is our owner and optometrist and is a fellow of the British Association of Behavioural Optometrists (BABO). In addition to running the practice, he teaches BABO courses and works with children and adults with brain injuries and other conditions.
Completing the team are Melonie, senior dispensing assistant since 2018 and Marie, dispensing assistant since 2017. Melonie and Marie are the faces of our customer experience, greeting patients, making them feel comfortable and helping them with anything they need such as choosing new frames.
Of course, we offer advanced eye exams. As an independent practice, we are proud of the fact that we take the time to give each patient a personal service. John will always ensure patients can discuss any concerns they may have and each appointment is tailored to the person.
As well as the usual optical services, we also provide a variety of solutions for myopia control. Shortsightedness is affecting more and more children, and it is important to treat it to slow progression and help prevent complications in later life.
Our contact lens customers can take advantage of our monthly direct debit scheme, while anyone looking for glasses frames has a wide range of brands to choose from. We have carefully sourced a collection of frames with our patients in mind, to suit a variety of styles and budgets. Melonie and Marie are experts at matching frames to faces and we’re confident we can help you select a pair of specs you love.
John and his team are always working to keep up with the latest advances in optical technology. By attending trade shows and setting aside time for regular staff training, they continue their professional development and ensure they are providing the best service possible for patients.
